Epic by Conor Kostick

"Do you ever dream of dueling Central Allocations and winning?"

"Always."

Naming a book Epic might seem a bit ambitious... at least, that's what I thought before I started reading it. Because honestly, Epic really is epic.

Epic is placed in the future so I think all the stuff about civilization falling apart and people moving to a new planet goes without saying.
Because of the collapse, on New Earth, all violence is outlawed. Every problem people have is resolved in a video game named (wait for ittttt...!) Epic. People create characters and try their best to be successful in Epic. If you're successful in Epic, you'll be successful in the real world.

New Earth is governed by a committee of the best Epic players on New Earth. Over time, the committee has become tyrannical and hated for not doing anything to help the people of New Earth.

The main character is named Erik. He was always very unsuccessful in Epic until one day he made a new Character named Cindella.
People always made characters that looked like themselves and they made them as strong, rich, etc. as they could at the start of the same.
However, when Erik made Cindella, he made her as beautiful as possible.
And thus starts an adventure of playing Epic in a way that no one else ever dared to.
The next thing he knows, Erik is in the position to destroy the committee and all of their heartless ways.
Will he succeed?
I can't tell you- you'll just have to see for yourself. ;-)

Review #1: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

"Destroying things is much easier than making them."

In the years to come, war will break out across North America and everything you currently know will be destroyed. Out of the ruins emerges a new nation called Panem. There's thirteen districts and each year, the districts are required to send one boy and one girl to participate in the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a competition to the death between the tributes from each district. The tributes are put into an arena and have to learn to survive in the wild and keep from being killed by a fellow tribute. Only one tribute can come out alive. The Hunger Games is televised all across Panem and the winner will be given riches and fame.

"You don't forget the face of the person who was your last hope."

The main character of The Hunger Games is Katniss Everdeen. Originally, her little sister Prim was supposed to participate but Katniss took her place.
This story is very intense and really plays with your emotions... it even has romance in it.

"Remember, we're madly in love, so it's all right to kiss me anytime you feel like it."

This story is filled with politics and parallels with things that have happened in history.
It's also one of those stories that you say you're only going to read the first chapter and end up reading and reading and reading.

"Deep in the meadow, hidden far away
A cloak of leaves, a moonbeam ray
Forget your woes and let your troubles lay
And when it's morning again, they'll wash away
Here it's safe, here it's warm
Here the daisies guard you from every harm
Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true
Here is the place where I love you."

Most definitely 5/5.

15

Greetings, Freaks!

For quite some time now I've been begging Angela to get a Facebook account. She's finally relented- with one condition. I have to write fifteen good reviews on here before she'll sign up... now what qualifies as a good review, I don't know... I guess that's up to Angela since she's supreme and all knowing. So watch out Blogger! SEP has fifteen, hopefully good, reviews on the way!

The Last Thing I Remember by Andrew Klavan

I love this book! Aside from good writing, intriguing plot, etc., what I found the most compelling thing about this book is that Charlie West is a good kid.
There's so many books out there for teenagers where the main characters have, to put it bluntly, lives that stink.
These authors write these books that are full of angst and the main characters have family problems, drug problems, problems at school, etc.
and these books get praised because "they're easy to relate to".
I hate books like that.
Now there's no need to tell me I'm weird, because I already know that I am.
I, my family, and most of my friends are good people just like Charlie West. We love God, fight for what we believe in, and help people.
Why is it that people want to believe that people like us don't exist anymore?
A character doesn't have to have mega huge issues with his/her life to be believeable. Sometimes you have to write about the good kid in order to make a realistic story.
Call me sheltered, but I know just as many kids (if not more than) that don't swear, don't have divorced parents, or any other issues as kids that do.

The Last Thing I Remember is an action packed story that'll hook you from beginning to end; with plenty of humor and patriotism added in too.

I can't wait for the next book to come out.

1000

So for the celebration of reaching the big 1000, everyone is going to post their answers to these questions.

What is/are your favorite book? Hmm... I don't know. Some of my favorites are: Harry Potter, Oliver Twist, Alex Rider, Emma, Inkheart, and Gregor the Overlander :)
What is/are your favorite series? see above :)
Who is/are your favorite author? I'd have to say Anthony Horowitz because I have yet to read a book by him that I didn't totally fall in lov with
What is/are your favorite genre/type of book? I don't have a favorite. The stuff I read is pretty varied
What was your favorite book when you were little? I don't know. I remember really liking Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs and The Berenstein Bears
What do you think of it now? They're cute books! I read them to the kids I babysit and my little sister.
What is the weirdest book you've ever read? Raven's Gate by Anthony Horowitz is pretty weird. So was Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports... wasn't that the one that was really confusing and really weird?
What is the longest book you have ever read? I don't know. I've read some pretty long books. If you count Lord of the Rings as one book, then that's probably the longest.
How long did it take you? Well, I was eight so it took me about three months to read LOTR
Do you ever want to write a book? Yep. I'm working on two. One of them is a group project.
Do you listen to audiobooks? Not on a regular basis, no. I did listen to a few of the Trixie Belden audiobooks, though. I want to listen to some of the Harry Potter ones. They're supposed to be really good.
What do you think of them? The Trixie ones were pretty good. I had already read the books so it was just like re-reading them.
Why do you love to read? It opens up a new world. You can imagine all sorts of things. I think those reasons are also the reasons I like art/crafts and acting.
When did you start to love to read? I've always loved to read. I couldn't wait when I was little to read. My mom thought for awhile that I was only pretending that I could read because she only did a few of the how to read lessons and beginner reading books with me.
